Michael Neal Brown of Slocum, Texas passed away after a long illness on Jan. 4, 2014 at the age of 69.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Suzanne; two sons, Jimmy and his wife, Lisa, of Pasadena, Johnny and his wife, Shawna, of San Antonio; two daughters, Michelle Cleveland of Spring, Marlene Henderson and husband, Stephen, of New Waverly; two brothers, Billie and his wife, Cindy, of Houston, Mark and his wife, Faye, of Houston; 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Visger and William George Brown; one sister, Rebecca and her daughter, Lisa.
Michael retired after 35 years from Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local No. 22 in Pasadena, Texas.
Michael attended Aldine High School where he became interested in weightlifting. He joined the Northside Athletic Club, a special youth program for teenagers, where he was the Southwest Title Holder of all class records in his age and weight group. He participated in numerous weightlifting meets and won many trophies from 1962 to 1990. In 1989, he won first place in the National Championship.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Boren-Conner Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Texas. The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7 at the J.T. Killgo Cemetery located on FM 2022 in Slocum, Texas. The officiating will be by W.D. “Butch” Lewing and Travis Brown.
Michael's nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers: Derrick Brown, Travis Brown, Wesley Brown, David Brown, Jeff Brown, Eric Flanagan and Darrell Flanagan.
