— Shirley Wortman Brown passed away suddenly on June 15, 2013 at the age of 87.

She was born in Baldwinsville, N.Y., but grew up in Manassas, Va., then moved to Dallas, Texas in 1944.

In 1948 she married James H. Brown, who preceded her in death after 53 years of marriage.

Shirley is survived by a brother, Vance Wortman of Falls Church, Va.; children Jim (Zan) of Glen Rose, Texas; Ritchie (Karen) of Flower Mound, Texas; Debbie (Doug) Mooney of Spring, Texas; Patty Rosen of Cypress, Texas; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; lifelong friends Mikki Grube and her son Richard (Carla); and her faithful canine companion, Rocky.

Shirley (and Jim) worked for Southwestern Bell Tel. Co. After working for SWBT for 34 years, Shirley and Jim retired to Palestine, Texas where Shirley pursued her life’s passion of pottery, gifting those around her with pieces of her beautiful work. When not playing in the clay, Shirley enjoyed reading with a voracious appetite for learning about anything and everything, as well as spending time with her family, her friends at Bois D’Arc Baptist Church and her Second Saturday group in Dallas.

There will be a celebration of Shirley’s life at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Bois D’Arc Baptist Church in Palestine, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse or to the Anderson County Humane Society.
