Willia Thelma Beason Cravin

PALESTINE — Services for Willia Thelma Beason Cravin, 98, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy G. Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cravin passed away peacefully at her home on April 20, 2012. She was born on March 15, 1914 in Palestine, Texas and was the fourth and youngest child of James and LouVenia Adams Beason.

She attended Palestine public schools. At an early age, she united with Antioch Baptist Church and was active in the youth activities. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1932, she began teaching Sunday school and Mission classes. Her dedicated services also included being a Vacation Bible School principal/director and Sunday school teacher.

Mrs. Cravin also served many years as the secretary of Naomi Chapter No. 50, Order of the Eastern Star.

In the mid-1940s she married the love of her life, Wayman Cravin. To this union two daughters were born. Mrs. Cravin delighted in caring for her family. She was a dedicated homemaker and accomplished seamstress. Her stepson, Wayman Cravin Jr., grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly called her “Mama Jack,” “Granny” and “G-G.” She turned every visit into a special holiday. Her children rise up and bless her.

Mrs. Cravin's life was a reflection of her love for the Lord. Psalm 37:3, “Trust in the Lord and do good,” was her motto. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Left to continue her legacy of love are her daughters: Ethel LouVenia Holmes (Joel) of Fort Worth, Texas and Thelma Otha Holland of Palestine, Texas; her grandchildren: Tony (Tomika), Kevan (Tonia), Wilhemia (Clerkley), LouVenia Dihan, Christina, and DeWayne Holmes of Fort Worth, Texas; Lia Holland Young (Robert) and Alex Jon Holland of Denton, Texas; her great-grandchildren: Deion, Lauren and Matthew Holmes; Odell Ingram, Kevan II, Templeton, Tianna, Alexia and Darrion Holmes; Joshua, Joshalyn, Josiah, and Johauna Clerkley; William Joseph, Jordan and Jonathan Holmes; and Jasmine, Telia, Robert, and Raelyn Young; sisters-in-law: Adel Smith and Ora Jackson (Lee) of Los Angeles, Calif.; dear friends: Bobbie Diggs, Gretchen Johnson and numerous other relatives and friends.

The only visitation and viewing will be held prior to the service from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
