Memorial services for Martin Edward “Marty” Burks, 57, of Elkhart will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Palestine with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Burks passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
He was born July 25, 1956, in Port Arthur, Texas to Edward Martin Burks and Bobbie Jo Bearden Burks.
Mr. Burks began as a carpenter, owning his own construction company. He then obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in nursing and subsequently received his Physician Assistant certification. He was an active member of First Baptist Church participating in many Mission activities. He truly was a devoted servant of God. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Burks was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Natalie Burks of Palestine; sons, Joshua Burks of Larue and Andrew Burks of Palestine; daughter, Emily Burks-Mitchell of Palestine; mother, Bobbie Jo Burks of Henderson; sisters, Barbara Woodall of El Reno, Okla. and Faye Burks Scott of Bryan; and two grandchildren, Caleb Burks and Olivia Burks.
