Funeral services for Joy Lynn Seckler, 56, of Palestine will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home with Brother John Wiseman officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.
Joy passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at her residence.
She was born May 27, 1957, in Fort Meade, Maryland to Thomas and Bettye Dorr Appleton. She had lived in Anderson County since 1986 and was retired from University of Texas Medical Branch after 25 years of service. She was an avid reader and loved to laugh.
Joy was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Afton Appleton; and her grandparents, Lillian Johns Dorr Cowsert, Luther Dorr, Mary Bell Appleton and James Appleton.
Survivors include her mother, Bettye Loyce Dorr Raines of Palestine; husband of 11 years, Keith Seckler of Palestine; son, Hank Kazmierczak of Lindale; daughters, Candice Armour and husband Charlie of Athens and Holly DeFoore and husband John of Tyler; brother, James Appleton and wife Anne of Alvin; sister, Mary Ann Eddins and husband Jim of Houston; sister-in-law and best friend, Vicki Love of Lubbock; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Larry Bowermaster, Sid Walston, Albert Hassell, Bobby Britt, Allan Young, and Billy Neal.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
