G.W. Vannoy

Graveside services for George W. Vannoy, known as “G“ or “GW” to friends and family, 84, of Montalba, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Holly Springs Cemetery in Montalba with Paul Jones officiating.

GW passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at the Sterling House in Palestine.

He was born in Palestine on June 18, 1929 to Melvin J. (Sam) and Cilla Mae Vannoy.

GW graduated from Cayuga High School. He lived in Houston, Texas for almost 20 years and the rest of his life was spent in the Palestine/Montalba area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending lots of time outdoors. He also had a great love for animals, his favorite being dogs.He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Glenda Henry, Mildred Reed, and Jake Vannoy.

GW is survived by his son, Layne Vannoy and wife Amy of Palestine; two grandchildren, Lyndsey and Carson Vannoy of Palestine; sister, Pauline Hargrave and husband Ralph of Lewisville; and numerous other friends and family members.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at the Sterling House of Palestine for their great and compassionate care provided in the last few years.

A visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
