Services for Walter Ivins, 58, of Neches, will be at 10 a.m.. Tuesday at Dogwood Hills Baptist Church with the Revs. Kevin Willmott and David Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in Neches Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Ivins died Thursday at his residence.
He was born Sept. 9, 1955 in Jacksonville to Wilford Walter and Nellie Perkins Ivins.
Mr. Ivins was a member of the First Baptist Church of Neches. He graduated from Neches High School and the the University of Texas at Tyler to become a school teacher. He taught for 19 years in the Palestine, Neches and Jacksonville schools. He was involved with the youth and government and later employed with the Palestine Herald-Press. He enjoyed square dancing.
Mr. Ivins was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his mother, Nellie Ivins of Neches; a sister, Cammie Thomas and husband Dwayne; and a brother, Carl Ivins and wife Cheryl, all of Neches; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ken Cook, Jimmy Gonzales, Joshua Kincade, Ernie Ivins, Bob Simmons, George Simmons Jr., Jack Wedgeworth and Wesley Ivins. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Gonzales, Jaden Kincade, Jase Kincade, Jonah Kincade and Kevin Thomas.
Condolence calls will be received Monday from 5 to 7 p.m.. at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
