Larris Andrew Rutherford

Larris Andrew Rutherford passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014 after a courageous 16-month battle with brain cancer. He was born in Mesquite, Texas on Aug. 24, 1937 to Harris and Mittie Tribble Rutherford (deceased), their only child. Larris graduated from Mesquite High School. Upon graduation Larris became a firefighter working for Mesquite, Dallas and Richardson fire departments.

After several years he decided to change careers and went to work for Ivey Lumber in Garland, Texas and later worked for DeFord Lumber in Duncanville, Texas. Larris met and married, Marcella Bridgers in 1968. After many years in the lumber business, Larris retired from the lumber business and joined his wife in the antique business. They traveled the entire United States buying and selling antiques. For years they ran Marcella’s Antiques in Canton, Texas in addition to Rutherford’s Auction Barn, a Bed-And-Breakfast, and Antique Mall.

Rutherford, as he was lovingly called by friends and family members, was a loving husband and father first of all, and a hunting enthusiast, a hobby he shared with his father and later with his son, Andy. He was a cabinet maker, great at repairing and refinishing furniture, and always willing to help a friend or relative with any project. You could often find Rutherford sharping knifes for anyone that had the need. He had a laugh that was contagious and always a happy and gentle man.

He is survived by Marcella Bridgers Rutherford of Palestine; son, Andy Rutherford of Arlington; brother, Ray Sanders of Crandall; five sisters/double cousins, Dorothy Richardson and Sammie Anderson, of Mesquite, Carolyn Stodard, Lou Harper, and Sandra Ashabranner, all of Houston; cousins, Leland Tribble, Ronald Tribble, Terry Tribble, Lawanna Cathey and Paul , all of Mesquite; one aunt, Hyla Tribble, of Mesquite; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lanell and Doyle Coslin, Tommy and Melba Bridgers, Larry (deceased ) and Linda Bridgers, LaQuetta and John Klinge, Pat and Mike Packard; and a host of nieces and nephews, hunting buddies in Texas and Arkansas, and especially Camp No. 7.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Tackett, Gary Tackett, Bill Nalor, Roger Owen, Joe Durant, Floyd Stober, Jimmy West and Johnny Mitchell.

Memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Senior Activity Center, 200 N. Church St., Palestine, Texas.
