Garth Moran

— Services for Garth Moran, 90, of Elkhart, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church Elkhart with the Rev. Bill Gernenz and the Rev. Floyd Petersen officiating.  Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.

Mr. Moran passed away Dec. 31, 2012, in Palestine.  

He was born July 9, 1922 in Garland, to C.J. Moran Sr., and Ellen Sanders Moran.  He was a longtime coach for the Nederland Little League and Babe Ruth League, a four-term mayor of Elkhart, board member of the Anderson County Crime Stoppers and faithfully delivered Meals on Wheels until the age of 89.  

Mr. Moran retired from Pure Oil/Unocal in Nederland as a Process Operator with 34 years service, and was a member of First Baptist Church Elkhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Dell Moran; and and second, wife Sybil Bartee Moran.  

Mr. Moran is survived by brother, C.J. Moran Jr., of Elkhart; daughter, Connie Nicholas of Nederland; son, John Mark Moran of Lumberton; stepson, Jimmy Bartee of Elkhart; stepdaughters, Jeanne Murray of LaPorte and Connie Lee Bartee of Palestine; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  He also is survived by his niece, Glenda Starr and husband Truman of Elkhart; great nephew, Curtis Starr of Elkhart; great niece, Lisa Chapin and husband Greg of Elkhart; and nephew, Mike Moran of Houston.

Pallbearers will be Truman Starr, Curtis Starr, Greg Chapin, Thomas Vaughn, Ryan Slott and Billy Ray Sanders.  Honorary pallbearers will be Cooper Slott, Seth Murray, Jim Coy Bartee, Horace Taft and Wayne Dial.

Condolence calls will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Palestine.
