Mary was born Oct. 4, 1915 in Blakeley, Ga. to the late Thomas F. Cordray and Constance S. Cordray of Blakeley, Ga and Gulfport, Miss.
She died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in Palestine, Texas at age 97.
Mary grew up in Georgia and Mississippi and attended Bowling Green Business College in Kentucky.
She was a legal assistant in Gulfport and Jackson, Miss. Her husband C. F. “Jim” Sizer was with Knox Glass in Jackson, Miss. and transferred to Palestine, Texas in 1958.
Mary was an 83-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a past Regent of the Palestine William Findley Chapter. She was a charter member of the Harvey Woman's Club and was active in the First Baptist Church and the Pioneer Garden Club. Mary performed and traveled with the Holy City Strummers ukulele band for a number of years and taught the Jet Setters line-dancing group for 11 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, C.F. “Jim” Sizer who died in 1979; husband of seven years, W.A. “Bill” Peckham who died in 2005; and by her son, James H. Sizer, who died in 2010.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Sizer Ray and husband Joe Bob Ray of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Melanie Ray of Richardson, Texas, Mark Ray and wife Roze of Garland, Texas, and Rachel Sizer of Dallas, Texas, and daughter-in-law Mona Sizer of Harlingen, Texas.
Many who enjoyed Mary's upbeat attitude and shared her love of travel, an active lifestyle, and an interest in genealogy research will remember her.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today Tat Bailey & Foster Chapel.
