Jerry G. Howard

Jerry G. Howard, 70, of Palestine, Texas went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 27, 2014, at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas.

Jerry was born on March 23, 1944, in Bennington, Oklahoma to Westley Howard and Viola Cole Howard.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters, Maybell Benett of Dorchester, Texas, Lee Chestley of Austin, Texas, Jean Swindell of Duncanville, Texas, Toni Kelly of Houston, Texas, Roy Lee Howard of Norman, Oklahoma, Jaye March of Bakersfield, California, and Granville Howard of Bakersfield, California.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lela Howard of Palestine; his daughter, Katherine Ansley and her husband John of Buffalo, Texas; grandchildren, Ashley Ansley and Justin Ansley both of Buffalo, Texas; sisters, Faye Mapes of Richardson, Mary Emmons and husband Jimmy of Tom Bean, Texas, Linda Mae Wadford of Sherman, Texas; and brother, David Chesley of Houston, Texas.

Jerry was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Masonic Lodge No. 31 in Palestine. He retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system where he worked 23 years and four months.

Jerry never met a stranger and loved to fish and hunt. He just enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel. Masonic graveside services will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel.
