Eileen passed away, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler after valiantly fighting a 17-year battle with breast cancer.

She was born April 20, 1947, in Palestine, Texas to Joe E. and Juanita Starr Chaffin.

Eileen was a Christian and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkhart for over 60 years. She owned and operated Eileen's Beauty Shop in Elkhart where she styled hair, counseled friends, and touched many lives. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi where she enjoyed friends and fellowship. When meeting Eileen, you would immediately notice that she always brightened up a room and never met a stranger. She left a sparkle wherever she went. We know that those who went before her are celebrating right now having her with them in heaven!

She was preceded in death by her mother; and her first husband, Johnny M. Parker.

She is survived by her father, Joe E. Chaffin of Dogwood Trails, Palestine; her husband of 20 years, Mike Hays of Elkhart; daughter, Lori McKenzie and husband Craig of Spring; son, Jody Parker and wife Amy of Elkhart; stepsons, Michael Hays and wife Marcy of Elkhart and Matt Hays and wife Sondra of Elkhart; and grandchildren, Chelsi McCann, Cade McKenzie, Hunter Parker, Heather Parker, Erin Hays, Regan Hays, Alli Hays, Jacob Hays, Aiden Torma, Brooks Torma, Madye Hays and Mallori Hays.

Pallbearers are Roger Parker, Gary Gunnels, Dennis Grimsley, Marty Cox, Barrett Sanders and Joe Farrow.

Visitation will be held in the chapel at Herrington Funeral Home in Palestine from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers the family would request donations to the Johnny Parker Memorial Scholarship Fund at Elkhart State Bank, P.O. Box 427, Elkhart, Texas, 75839 or the charity of your choice.
