Funeral services for James Carrol Scoggin, 84, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wade Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.
Mr. Scoggin passed away on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living in Palestine.
He was born July 19, 1929, in Augusta, Texas to Willis Scoggin and Lorena Ferguson Scoggin.
He retired as a captain in the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Westwood Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jackie Sue Scoggin; daughter, Lisa Sue Scoggin; stepdaughter, Kathy Duncan; and three brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Wall Scoggin; sons, Gary David Scoggin and wife Amanda, James C. Scoggin Jr. and wife Missy, Richard O. Scoggin and wife Kim; stepdaughters, Teresa Pippin and husband Bill, and Laurie Shingle and husband Steve; grandchildren, Shannon Scoggin Rowe (husband Trey Rowe), Amy Scoggin Doss (husband Justin Doss), Brooks Scoggin, Kevin Scoggin (wife Sarah), Chelsea Scoggin, Gary Scoggin Jr., Gunnar Scoggin, Gretchen Scoggin, and Tyler Scoggin; great-grandchildren (Savannah, Andrew, Kyle, Ruston, Taylor, and Emma); and 16 stepgrand- and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brooks Scoggin, Kevin Scoggin, Gary Scoggin Jr., Gunnar Scoggin, Tyler Scoggin, Trey Rowe and Justin Doss (honorary).
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
