Mary Kathryn “Kay” Mottern passed away peacefully on Nov. 11, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Sunbury, Pa. at the age of 98. She was born April 20, 1915, in Northumberland, Pa.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Francis and Lenna Hummel; husband, John C. Mottern; daughter, Barbara Quick; brother, Gordon “Bud” Hummel; sisters, Ruth Geise, Margaret Erdley and Wilma Boyer; and grandson, Steven Quick.

She is survived by her son, John L. Mottern and wife, Ann, of Palestine; son-in-law, Leonard Quick of Newmanstown, Pa.; sister, Sally Swank and sister-in-law, Helen Hummel, both of Northumberland, Pa.; grandchildren, Maureen Lesher and husband, Scott, of W. Wyomissing, Pa., Kate Quick of Greensboro, N.C., Jason Mottern and wife, Ashley, of Fort Drum, N.Y., Ryan Mottern and wife, Hillary, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and John L. Mottern Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Michaela Mottern of Tucson and Jett, Bella and Gunnar Mottern and Karrigan and Emma Webb, all of Fort Drum, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 at Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. Arrangements are under the direction of Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home of Northumberland.
