Funeral services for George E. “Buzz” Stroud Jr., 88, of Sugar Land and formerly of Oakwood, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10 at First Christian Church in Oakwood. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Doug Stevens will be officiating.
Mr. Stroud died on Friday, July 26 in Sugar Land. He was born in Oakwood on Sept. 18, 1924, to George Ethan Stroud and Mamie Pitts Stroud.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joan Stroud Eppler.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lorraine Easley Stroud; son, George E. Stroud III of Sugar Land; brother, Bobby Stroud and wife Delores of Palestine; nephews, John Eppler of Valleja, Calif., Jim Bob Stroud of Oakwood and Tim Stroud of Justin; and niece, Virginia Stroud McCauley, of Colleyville.
Buzz graduated from Oakwood High School in 1942. He was retired after many years in the hardware business.
During World War II, he did his schooling at Big Spring Army Air Base as a ground crew chief. He was awarded the Bronze Star and held the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, DFC. He received the Presidential Citation as a waist gunner on a B17 with the 8th Air Force, serving 25 missions over Europe.
He was a member of Bethany Christian Church, Houston and was a Shriner.
Pallbearers will be Jim Bob Stroud, Tim Stroud, John Eppler, Raymond Rantala, Chris Eppler and Brady Edwards.
