The life of Willard Dale Pletcher will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 at Grace Bible Church in Palestine.
Mr. Pletcher passed away peacefully at home in Palestine on Dec. 13 after courageously facing the daily challenges of living with ALS for the last three years.
On June 25, 1966 he was born in Groom, Texas. He later graduated from Goddard High School in Roswell, N.M. And went on to obtain a Bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Texas at Arlington.
At the time of being diagnosed with Lou Gerhig's Disease or ALS, he was serving as the Executive Director of the East Central Texas United Way here in Palestine. He loved scuba diving, bicycling and singing. He found ways to share his passion with others as a dive instructor, bicycle ride organizer, and by singing with his friends in various choirs and worship groups. While ALS robbed him of his athleticism and physical abilities, it only strengthened his quick witted humor and his faith. Never ever complaining of his new limitations, he was and continue to truly be an inspiration and blessing to us all.
He is survived by his parents, Willard Dale Pletcher Sr. and Nancy of Arlington; wife, Heather Gean Pletcher of Palestine; children, Samuel Paul Pletcher, Sarah Malee Pletcher, Rachel Louise Gean and David Benton Gean; brothers, Carey Don Pletcher and Laura of Arlington, Tony Paul Pletcher and Gina of Highland Village; sister, Tonia Pletcher Jones and Wayne of Fort Smith, Ark.; as well as their precious families, nieces, nephews and many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the ALS Association or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
