— Funeral services for Donald Hugh Scarbrough, 59, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Msgr. Zacharias Kunnakkattuthara officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Dr. Scarbrough died on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 in Dallas.

He was born on Nov. 13, 1953 in San Antonio to Robert and Billie Young Scarbrough.

Dr. Scarbrough lived most of his life in Palestine. After graduating from Palestine High School in 1971, Texas A&M University in 1974, and Texas A&M University Veterinary School in 1978 he opened the Brookhollow Veterinary Clinic in 1979, where he practiced veterinary medicine for over 30 years. He had a great passion for animals and loved rehabilitating wildlife as well as teaching the local children about animals. Dr. Scarbrough also enjoyed sailing, biking, and was a great supporter of the troops overseas and at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his son, Shawn Scarbrough of Palestine; brother, Dan Scarbrough and wife Sharon of Palestine; and nephews, Chris Scarbrough and Matt Scarbrough both of Palestine.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Scarbrough, Chris Scarbrough, Matt Scarbrough, Christian Lopez, Harold Gilbert and John Wilbanks.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
