— Helen Frances Porter Watts, 89, of Oakwood, moved to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. She was born on Aug. 11, 1923 in St. Louis, Mo. to William Leonard and Alma Ninette Stewart Porter. She served her country in the Women’s Army Corp during World War II. She married John Carter Watts on August 3, 1946 and together they spent many years in Christian ministry throughout East Texas with most of those years in and around Oakwood.

Helen loved her Heavenly Father, her husband and family with a passion and served them well. She was a faithful, dedicated and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, calling all their names out in prayer on a daily basis. She loved music and taught piano for many years, passing that along to her children and grandchildren, some of whom have picked up the torch and continue to teach music to others. She was happiest when her family was gathered around the piano, singing songs of praise to her Lord and King. She was a life-long student of God's Word, the Bible, and shared her love of Jesus at every opportunity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 43 years, son-in-law Travis Ray Allen and daughter-in-law Karen Crosby.

She is survived by daughters, Aurelia Daniel and husband Jimmy of Buffalo, Karen Allen of Oakwood, Billie Jo Box and husband Rodney of Franklin, Becky Ingram and husband Sammy of Palestine, Kathy Stevens and husband Stanley of Oakwood; sons, Asa Watts of Oakwood, Albert Watts and wife Carol of Apia, Western Samoa, David Watts and wife Judy of Palestine, 27 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; sisters, Ellen Hackathorn and husband Marvin, and Betty Gearheart and husband Larry; brothers, William Porter and wife Angie, and Bruce Ball, all of Kansas City, Kan. and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at Back to the Bible Church in Oakwood with Pastor Johnny Robinson and Pastor Rodney Box officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood City Cemetery. Condolence calls will be received on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home in Palestine.

Grandsons, Michael Daniel, Paul Daniel, Jeff Allen, Samuel Box, Jeremy Box, Jonathan Ingram, Jason Watts, Barrett Watts and Caden Watts will serve as pallbearers.
