Funeral services for Betty Jean Woods, 80, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. today at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dr. Woody Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Woods died Saturday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 2, 1932 in Palestine to Calvin and Edna Bars Hinson. After returning to Palestine in 1979, BJ worked for Combined Associates Real Estate and later for Anderson County in the district clerk’s office, where she made many friends in the legal community.
BJ loved to travel. Never meeting a stranger, she and Howard spent much of the past eight years visiting many new places and developing new friendships along the way. Endeared for her sense of humor, BJ could always be relied upon to wittily add laughter to the conversation. Even throughout her recent illness, her family and friends were comforted and uplifted by her humor, her joyful spirit, and her caring and thoughtful nature.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Woods; a daughter, Linda Marie Cooper of Seabrook; sisters, Joyce Baxter and Gina Gingerich; grandchildren, Greg Bowman and wife Laura of Lufkin, Casey Cooper of Alvin, and Page Cooper of Humble; two great-grandchildren, Emily Bowman and Elizabeth Bowman.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Butler, Harold Skidmore, David Calloway, Neal French, Steven Davis and Scott Gotcher.
