James Harvey Yelverton passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 after battling lung cancer.
He was born June 26, 1931 in Riverside, Texas to John and Mary Yelverton.
Jim eventually attended and graduated from Sam Houston State University. He joined the Navy and proudly served aboard a mine sweeper as a radar operator during the Korean War.
Much of Jim's business career involved acquiring major commercial accounts for the moving and storage business, including almost all of the major van line companies. Before retiring to Palestine, Jim and his wife, Donna, started East Tx Moving and Storage in Jacksonville. This business was eventually moved to Palestine. After his moving career, Jim began involvement with city politics and faithfully served on the Palestine City Council from 2001 to the present.
Jim was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and John; sister, Marjean; and his loving wife of almost 50 years, Donna Yelverton.
Jim was a loving father and husband. He was devoted to his family and community.
He is survived by daughter, Karen; three sons, James Troy Yelverton and wife, Marsha, David Grimes and wife, Karen, and Richard Grimes; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 at First United Methodist Church, 422 S. Magnolia St. in Palestine.
