— Services for Troy E. Jones, 96, of Elkhart will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Roselawn Park with the Rev. Barney Walker officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. Jones passed away Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 9, 1917 in Anderson County to Baskom and Lizzie Jones. He loved Jesus and His word. In early years he worked at the glass plant in Palestine and later moved to Houston with family and worked for about 38 years as a welder, iron worker and boiler maker.

Mr. Jones had a very giving heart. He cared for the widows and orphans. He loved people. He always had a smile and kind words to say to those he came in contact with.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Viola Wallace; two brothers, Alvie Jones and Willard Jones; two half-brothers, J.W. Bridges and Thomas Bridges.

He also was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Jimmy Sue Williams; two grandsons, Mark Allen Okonski and Michael Wayne Okonski; and the mother of his children, Katherine Murdock Heyerdahl also followed.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Okonski; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Craig Williams and wife Cristen, their two girls Kendall and Clara, Kelly Marsh and husband Brian, their three daughters, Morgan, Chloe, and Brinn, Karan Watkins and husband Jesse, their two daughters, Haiden and Harper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was known by the caretakers at Truecare Living Center of Palestine as “Mighty Fine Jones” — to him everybody was “mighty fine.”
