Earnestine “Tina” Mims

— Earnestine “Tina” Mims was the first born to Eula B. Carr Mims and Henry Mims. She was born Sept. 3, 1938 in Palestine, Texas.

Ernestine grew up and attended Banks Elementary School and graduated from A.M. Story in 1958. She continued her education by attending Texas Southern University where she majored in education and was a member of Texas Southern University track and field.

Ernestine accepted Christ early in life and was a life member of Grant Chapel AME Church. She served on the stewardess board, kitchen committee and adviser to the youth.

She later moved back to Palestine, where she began her career as a teacher’s aide for the Palestine Independent School District.

On March 8, 2013, Ernestine left this earth on the wings of angels.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lee and Eula Bell Mims; sisters, Bernadine Kinney and Lula Swanson; and brother, Henry Mims Jr.

Those left behind to remember many sweet memories include: son, Vincent Quinn Mims of Palestine; two daughters, Andrea Lynn Mims of Houston and Lisa (Ray) Thomas of Palestine; brother, Travis Mims of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Alice Jarmom of Houston and Rosie Steen Simmons of Palestine; aunt, Zula Mae Mims of Palestine; grandchildren, Raschad (De’onta) Mims I, Constance LeBlanc, Crystal (Bluitt) McNeal; great-grandchildren, Nadia Mims, Caleb LeBlanc, Rashad Mims II, Caelyn Lede, Jalisa McNeal, Jadalynn McNeal; special nieces, Stephanie Jones, Demaris Mims, Debra Walker, Anortha Jarmon, Elijoan Jack; nephew, Ray Simmons; great niece, Briana Jones; great-nephew, Robert Jones III; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Grant Chapel AME Church, located at 708 S. Dorrance St. in Palestine.  Arrangements are under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home of Palestine.
