Alan E. “Al” Stuart, 85, of Palestine passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 following a lengthy battle with multiple health issues. He was a recent resident of Cartmell Home for the Aged in Palestine, Texas.
Mr. Stuart was born May 11, 1927 in Madison, Wis., to Robert C. and Myrtie Walters Stuart.
After graduating from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, he went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company where he spent 38 years before retiring in 1985. He rose to the position of Regional Operations Manager for Phillips Petroleum and was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He was a World War II veteran who proudly served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Stuart was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 55 years, Joyce Bynum Stuart; and brother, Jack Stuart.
He is survived by son, Scott Stuart and wife Priscilla of Palestine; brothers, Rev. Jim Stuart of Gastonia, N.C. and Robert Stuart of Blacksburg, Va.; and his pride and joy, grandchildren, Scotty and Sammi Stuart.
Graveside services for Mr. Stuart will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Roselawn Park, with the Rev. Jason Huffman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Palestine.
