Funeral services for David Thomas George Sr., 92, of Palestine, were at 11 a.m. today at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Blaha and the Rev. Walter Pickens officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. George died Sunday at Trucare Living Centers in Palestine.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1920, in LaPorte to Arthur George and Mary Etta Cline George.
Mr. George was raised in LaPorte where he worked in Civilian Conservation Corps during the great depression. During World War II he was engaged in Normandy, Ardennes, and the Rhineland Campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge while serving in the United States Army.
Mr. George worked as a carpenter for 31 years for Dow Chemical Company in Freeport. He lived in Palestine since 1987 and was instrumental in the construction of the new Broyles Chapel Baptist Church.
Mr. George was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepdaughter, Dorris Anne Skidmore.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne George of Palestine; son, Sonny George and wife Linda of Angleton; daughter, Ruth Ann Redden and husband Bobby of Abilene; stepsons, Jerry Farrell of Clute and Keith Skidmore and wife Yvonne of Jewett; stepdaughter, Linda Lott and husband Tom of Fulshear; brother-in-law, Randall Ward and wife Glenda of Palestine; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
