L.W. Ricks (Lawrence Williams) was born Jan. 17, 1939 in Palestine in Anderson County, Texas. He was the fifth of seven children born to the union of Samuel Ricks Sr. and Victoria Morrow Ricks.

L.W. went home to be with His Lord and Savior on Feb. 22, 2014.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 1007 S. Fulton St. in Palestine under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home of Palestine. A wake will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

L.W. was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Ricks Sr. and Victoria Ricks; two brothers, Samuel “Pete” Ricks Jr. and Warren Earl (Tang) Ricks.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife, Jessie Ricks; one daughter, Yolanda (Kevin) Tinzy of Fort Worth, Texas and their children, Kevon and Travon; one stepson, Johnathan Gay of Denver, Colo.; and one stepdaughter, Janice T. (Hosea) Cannon, of Denver, and their children, Aaron, Monica, Hosea III and Josiah; two brothers, Julius (Virginia) Ricks of Sacramento, Calif. and James (Mary) Ricks of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Ernestine Robinson of Palestine and Juanita (Amos) Dewitty of Austin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
