Jack Edward Smith, 85, of Lake Frankston, Texas, joined his Lord and Savior at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 after a valiant 23-year cancer battle.
He was born to Edward Earle Smith and Ruth Venable Smith in McKinney, Texas, on July 31, 1928.
Jack was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas (go Wildcats); he served in the Air Force from 1946 to 1950, and was a proud patriot all of his life. He spent over 45 years in the oil and gas industry and he also designed and built three of his own houses and drew plans for many people in the East Texas area.
Jack is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jo Anne Gregory Smith; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian E. and Kristin Gidley Smith of Allen; a daughter, Nancy Lynn Liner of Sachse; a treasured granddaughter and grandson, Claire Isabella and Anton Bauer Smith; along with his niece, Lou Ann Moore.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Vera Moore, of Dallas.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, at First Baptist Church in Palestine, Texas, at 10 a.m. with a small reception following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Foundation, Jews for Jesus in San Francisco, Calif., East Texas Hospice in Tyler or the charity of your choice.
