Graveside services for Jessie E. Becker, 90, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Land of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. Melissa Russell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Becker passed away Tuesday in Palestine.
Jessie was a beautiful lady inside and out, and her friendliness, clever sense of humor, and fun- loving spirit made her a beloved “life of the party.” Her family and friends treasure their memories of good times together with her.
She was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Montalba, Texas, the only daughter of Lee and Clyde Lillian Harris Hutcherson. She and her brothers grew up in Montalba and attended Montalba School. Jessie met the love of her life, Joe T. Becker, as a child as she walked to school with the Becker children. After she graduated from Palestine High School and Joe returned from the Air Force service in Europe in WWII, they were married on April 20, 1947. Joe and Jessie's marriage of 62 years was a wonderful partnership of true love. They lived most of their married life in Tyler where she worked for Mother Francis Hospital as a pharmacy clerk. After retirement, they enjoyed many good times together and with friends and family. They often traveled all across America and into nearby countries, gathering interesting, funny, and beautiful memories and collectibles. They also enjoyed various arts and crafts, and her family especially benefited from her scrapbooking and researching the genealogy and history of the Hutcherson and Becker families. At Joe’s death in 2009, Jessie returned to Palestine to be near family and resided at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living and Memory Care. Special thanks to the staff there for their skillful, kind, and patient care of her these past four years. Additional gratitude to Dr. Michael Gorby for his wise and sensitive management of her complex medical needs. Any memorial contributions may be made to a diabetes or Alzheimer's charity of your choice.
Jessie is preceded in death and has been welcomed with joy by her parents, her two brothers, F.L. and V.W. Hutcherson, and her beloved husband, Joe.
She is survived by sisters-in-law Elda Becker of Palestine and Mary Beth Hutcherson of Tyler; sister by choice, Sally Harding of California; brother, Kenneth Hutcherson and wife Argylean of Palestine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Tommy Hutcherson, Bobby Hutcherson, Dustin Paul, Steve Gilbreath, Mark Kettering and Craig Russell.
Visitation with family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
