Billy Lee Johnson, 85, of Palestine passed away Monday, July 15, 2013, at Cartmell Home for Aged where he lived out the last five years of his life.
He was born July 4, 1928, in LaGrange, Georgia to William and Addie Whitlock.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dona Billie Johnson; brother, Charles Whitlock; and sister, Jean Nelson.
He is survived by his daughter, Diann Haigh of Montana; two sisters, Mary Kent and Eunice Schouest; two brothers, Harold McCullough and Grady McCullough; and one stepdaughter, Dona Ordello.
Bill served one year in the National Guard and eight years in the United States Marine Corps.
Dennis and Marla Woolsey, who have taken care of Bill for the past five-and-a-half years wish to give a warm thanks to the staff at Cartmell Home for Aged for their kind and loving care of Bill. We also would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for their tender care during Bill’s last days and a very, very special thanks to Peggy Porter.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. W. E. Shiflet officiating. Burial will follow at Neches Cemetery under the direction of Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Shane Greene, John Bennett, Allen Williams, Martin Gipson and two honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home.
