— Funeral services for Mitchell W. Carnes, 77, of Elkhart, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Jack Smith Jr. and  Jeffrey Craft officiating. Burial will be in Strong Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.

Mr. Carnes passed away Sunday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.  

He was born June 14, 1935 in Anderson County to Orun and Addie Prater Carnes.  

He was retired from Sprint, and was a member of Elkhart United Methodist Church.

Mr. Carnes was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Michael Carnes; and brother, Lenfred Carnes.  

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Wilson Carnes; daughter, Melanie Beshears and husband Jeff of Buffalo; son, Keith Carnes of Elkhart; sisters, Vernetta Walker and Lanova Mitchell; two grandchildren, Ross and Cade Beshears, whom he loved spending time with.

Pallbearers will be Don Johnston, Wayne Curry, Jerry Woody, Truman Starr, Bernie Dodd, Bob Huffman, Don Burke and Delmer Emery. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Carnes, Greg Herring, Dwight Franklin, Scott Wilson, Damon Carnes, David Mitchell, Ronald Gregg Mitchell, John Bean, Melvin Mason, Earl Garner, Don Langston and Oscar Warren.

Condolence calls will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Palestine.
