Robert Bishop

Robert Bishop went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 10, 2014. He passed away at home surrounded by family and loved ones after a losing battle with cancer.

A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Park at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. David Blackmon officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Robert was born July 28, 1934 in Anderson County, Texas to Joe Leroy and Clydia Mae Clark Bishop. During his career, he worked at the Texas Theater and F.W. Supply before joining the Palestine Fire Department on July 14, 1963. He retired June 30, 1997 after 34 years of service. Robert was always an avid water skier and boating enthusiast teaching many people how to ski and took many people on exciting inner tube rides.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry Leroy Bishop; and sister, Bobbie Ruth Bishop Robertson.

He was also preceded in death by a special nephew, James David Hudson.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Patricia Cook Bishop; niece, Yvonne Robertson Galloway; nephew, Larry Foster; grand nephews, Robert Nash and Richard Nash; brother-in-law, D.K. Robertson; mother-in-law, Daisy Cook; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Marilyn Gosper; and lifelong friends, Duane Raines and Bennie Davis; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Mike Pell, Mike Phillips, Vic Poff, Kelly Hughes, Geary Johnson and David Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Palestine Fire Department.

Special appreciation is given to Dr. Clay Williams, his caring medical staff and to the loving and caring of Hospice Plus, especially Pam Dean, RN and Natasha Jones, aide. A very special thanks to all family members and friends who helped give him special and loving care.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that a donation be made to American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
