Hugh Gerald "Jerry" Atwood, 90, died April 22, 2014 in Houston, Texas.
He was born Nov. 14, 1923 in Palestine, Texas to Clifford W. and Lola Bye Gaddy Atwood.
He graduated from The University of Texas, one of his greatest loves. During World War II, Jerry served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Atwood retired from Amoco International after a 36 year career of Texas assignments. He was active in the Jaycees, Toastmasters, Cub and Boy Scouts, Little League and served on the Levelland, Texas school board. Jerry founded the Amoco Houston Alumni Club. He enjoyed traveling via RV and visited all lower 48 states. He was a longtime volunteer with the MANNA charity. He was a Presbyterian Elder and a member of the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Atwood; first wife, Norma Lee Ilse Atwood; and second wife, Leta Schmuck Atwood.
He is survived by son, David Atwood (JoAnne) of Fairhope, Ala.; daughter, Beth Black (Rick) of El Paso; stepdaughters, Roberta Harrison (Troy) of Houston, Leslie Roop (Mike) of Richmond, and Becke Leo (Bob) of Denver. Also, sister, Ann Flinn of Lakeway; sister-in-law, Marilyn Atwood of Corsicana; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas on Friday, April 25, at 1 p.m.
