Maggie Mae Walker Hudson

Services for Maggie Mae Walker Hudson, 87, of Oakwood, and formerly of Dallas, will be at noon Saturday at Oakwood High School Auditorium in Oakwood, Texas. Burial will follow in Oakwood City Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home of Palestine.

Mrs. Hudson died Friday at home.

Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Wesley and Perlena Eddings Walker were blessed with a beautiful baby girl on March 7, 1925 in Oakwood, Texas. They named her “Maggie Mae.” She was the oldest of eight children.

Maggie accepted Christ into her life as a child and joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Oakwood. She later attended Zion Travel Baptist Church in Scurry, Texas; Allen Chapel Baptist Church in Dallas; and Andrew Chapel Baptist Church in Oakwood. She served as secretary of the church, anniversary clerk and pastor aide president.

She attended and received her education at St. Paul and Dunbar High School.

Maggie married on Jan. 11, 1944 to Birtise Hudson. This union was blessed with eight children.

She worked as a domestic supervisor. She was a member of the Heroin of Jericho. She also was the secretary of the Oakwood Cemetery Association.

On Feb. 22, 2013, in Oakwood, Maggie left her earthly body to go be with her Heavenly Father.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Perlena Walker; husband, Birtise Hudson; son, Waymon Hudson; three brothers, Wesley Walker Jr., Robert Lee Walker and Harvey Walker; and brother-in-law, Horace Davis.

Those left behind to remember Maggie’s sweet memories are: her four sons, Johnnie Wayne Hudson (Vanessa) of DeSoto, Charles Lynn Hudson and Kenneth Ray Hudson, both of Oakwood, and William Don Hudson of Dallas; three daughters, Carol Ann Robinson (John), Lena McKinney of DeSoto, and Christene Johnson (Collat) of DeSoto; brother, Leo Walker of Dallas; three sisters, Lorraine Walker and Annie Pearl Davis, both of Oakwood, and Sallie Faye Alford of Fort Worth; in-laws, Alvin Hutchinson of Houston, Geneva Young of Fort Worth, Hercelia Martin of Bay City, Cotia Faye Emanuel of Houston; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; Incare Walter Lee Brown, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
