William H. Fritz

Funeral services for William Henry Fritz, 96, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Forrest Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Mr. Fritz passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living in Palestine.

He was born March 2, 1917, in Illinois to Frank and Ethel Fritz.  He was a farmer and cattle rancher in South Dakota for 40 years.  He moved to Palestine in 1980 and owned and operated Singing Wheels Skating Rink for 25 years until his retirement.

At the age of 24, he asked Jesus to be his Lord and Savior and has served the Lord faithfully since then.

Mr. Fritz had been an active member of Ramsey Baptist Church in South Dakota for over 30 years and a member of Southside Baptist Church since moving to Palestine. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher and was also a Gideon for many years.  He volunteered as a cook at The Stockpot for three years. His greatest joy was serving others.

He is survived by his wife Betty of 71 years; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Hutson and husband Lloyd and Debbie Fritz-Vasquez and husband Ernest; sisters, Ada, Pearl, Lois, and Rose; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dean; a granddaughter, Emma; two half brothers, Lee and James; half sister, Louise; sisters, Hazel, Frances, Gladys, Lucille, and Ethel; and brothers, Chester and Frank Jr.

Pallbearers will be Marty Tarrell, Mike Bomer, Ernest Vasquez, Joe Becton, Craig Webb, Harold Skidmore and Phil Briscoe. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Southside Baptist Church Adult 8 Sunday School Class.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideon’s.
