Herman Claude Williams was born Jan. 9, 1932 in Montalba, Texas to the parents of Elbert Herman and Guida Coleman Williams. He was the second child of 10 children.
Herman was raised in the Providence community and attended Providence Public School.
He accepted Christ early in life and united with Providence Baptist Church. He served as choir president, past superintendent of Sunday school, Engineer of Church and chairman of the deacon board. He was a life member. He served as chairman of the Providence Cemetery Association, member of Montalba Male Chorus and former Masonic Lodge member.
Herman married Merlene Kimbrough on Sept. 9, 1951. This union was blessed with five children.
He was the owner and operator of H.C. Williams Garage. He also worked for Adams Bros. & E.W. Hable.
On June 6, 2013 in Tyler, Texas, Herman left his earthly body to go join his Heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Guida Williams; daughter, Deborah Kaye Keys; great-granddaughter, Jordyn Smith; brothers, Sammie Williams and Jerome Williams; and sisters, Leathia Williams and Helen Alford.
Those left behind to remember sweet memories are: loving wife of 61 years, Merlene Williams of Palestine; son, Herman Jr. (Pearley) Williams of Belton; Gary (Brenda) Williams of Houston; daughters, Frances (Donald) Skinner of Desoto, Linda (Samuel) Wickware of Palestine; son-in-law, Daniel (Pamela) Keys of Mechanicsburg, Penn.; sisters, Jerri Kimbrough of Montalba, Gloria Shaw of Chandler, Wilma Gray of Palestine, Shirley Dobbins Jackson and Patricia (Freeman) Paul, both of Dallas; aunt, Majestic Williams of Montalba; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services for Herman Claude Williams, 81, of Montalba, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Providence Baptist Church with burial to follow in Providence Cemetery in Montalba. The Rev. Freddie Crawford and the Rev. Roy G. Duncan will officiate. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Emanuel Funeral Home chapel. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Emanuel Funeral Home of Palestine is in charge of the services.
