Frances Marie Lechleiter Barkey died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014 at Elkhart Oaks Care Center. She was 92 years old. She was born Jan. 20, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri to Anton Lechleiter and Anna Lechleiter.
Frances worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad office in St. Louis, Missouri until she married Randolph Barkey on Aug. 31, 1941. He was transferred to the Palestine Missouri Pacific Railroad office in 1960 and the family moved to Palestine, Texas.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph Barkey; her parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Barkey of Palestine, Texas.
Frances was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and an Altar Society member. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Society and Food Pantry. She was one of the pioneers in the starting of the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. Frances was an asset to the community, she was a proud member of the Palestine Memorial Hospital Red Cross Gray Ladies; they volunteered many hours and were hospitality hostesses at many events at the Old Memorial Hospital.
A rosary will be held for Frances Marie Barkey at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Feb. 12, 2014 followed by a Memorial Mass with Msgr. Zacharias Kunnakkattuthara officiating. The inurnment will be at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at 503 N. Queen Street, Palestine, Texas 75801.
