— On Feb. 5, 1923 in Oakwood, Texas, Clem and Cora (Britton) Watkins became the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl whom they named Lida. She was the second child of seven children.

Lida accepted the calling of Christ in her midlife. She also assembled in the past with Lakeport Church of God in Christ. Continuing in her faith, Lida inspired and was the mother of “Mission Possible Bible Study Group.”

Lida lived in California for many years where she worked as a factory worker.

She moved back to Texas and married Jay Wagner Sr. on Feb. 5, 1951 in Holy Matrimony. This union was blessed with three children.

On April 17, 2014 in Palestine, Texas, Lida left her earthly body to go be with her Heavenly Father.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clem and Cora Watkins; husband, Jay Wagner Sr.; daughter, Fostine Weaver; siblings, Ruby Daniels, Cloyd Watkins, Charlie Watkins, Raymond Watkins, Lela Watkins and Mathis Watkins.

Those that remain to remember many sweet memories are: children, Johnie Wagner of Palestine, Lenda Wagner and Marilyn (Jimmy) Bailey, both of Palestine; Tommy Jay Wagner Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.; Francis Flackett of Pomonia, Calif; Robbie Private of Linden, Texas, Warwease McBridge of California; special cousins, Helen Watkins Barrow of California, Odel Foster of New York; sisters-in-law, Ruby Watkins and Magelean Watkins; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Lone Star Baptist Church in Oakwood. Burial will follow in Lone Star Cemetery with Elder R.C. Emanuel officiating.

A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Emanuel Funeral Home Chapel in Palestine.

A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
