Memorial services for Ida Bess Petty, 88, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jay Abernathy officiating. Services are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. Petty passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at her son’s residence.
She was born on July 20, 1924 in Oakwood to Snowden Burr Hester and Bessie Manning Hester.
Mrs. Petty lived most of her life in Palestine and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her two boys and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Hardy Petty; son, Roger Allen Thompson; and sisters, Bernice Cleere and Lonice Knight.
She is survived by her sons, Mickey Thompson and wife Bettie Ann of Palestine and John Mark Thompson and wife Cindy of Fairfield; brother, Stephen Albert Hester of Buffalo; sister, Fannie Jo Willis and husband Dr. Harlan Willis of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
