Joe Robert “Pop” Brown

Joe Robert "Pop" Brown, 68, of Palestine, Texas, died peacefully at home on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at 5:30 a.m.

He was born April 15, 1946 in Huntsville, Texas to Robert Jefferson Brown and Vernice Nesmith Brown. Joe was employed with the State of Texas for 33 years, first with the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife fishery in Huntsville, and then as a manager with Texas Department of Corrections Agriculture Department in Palestine. He was a man of conviction, honesty, integrity, loyalty, fairness, generosity, love of family and friends and would drop everything to help a friend in need.  He was a Mr. Fix-It beyond measure.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bobby Frank Brown and Danny Elton Brown; and step-son, Keith Lawrence.

He is survived by wife of 28 years, Ann Brown of Palestine; daughter, Connie Jo Gongre and husband Gary of Huntsville; son, John Travis Brown and wife Pamela of Palestine; sisters, Jamie Sue Brinegar and husband Donnie of Huntsville, Penny Fowler and husband Donnie of Huntsville; step-daughter, Debra Robinson and husband Walter of Edgewood, Washington; six grandchildren, Austin Travis Brown, Quinton John Brown, Courtney Marie Lively, Jayme Drinkard, Cody Allen Lawrence and Hope Stout; great-granddaughter, Tess Drinkard; great grandson, Landon Stout; sister-in-law, Lois Brown; nieces, Dana Tutor, Sheryl Keys, Becky Brown, Veronica Barrington; and honorary brother and sister, Leo and Gay Mohan.

A celebration of life service for "Pop" will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 at 4 p.m. at the family residence in Palestine. Come and share stories, memories, and food with family and friends, in casual attire please. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
