Funeral services for Mary Gist, 94, of Oakwood, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Oakwood, with the Rev. Doug Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.
Mrs. Gist passed away Monday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 13, 1919, in Oakwood, to John G. Smith and Lizzie Lummus Smith. She was formerly a Senior Accounting Clerk for the City of Austin and a member of the First Christian Church in Oakwood. She loved to cook for family and friends whenever possible.
Mrs. Gist was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John M. Gist; and daughter, Beth Maxwell.
She is survived by her son, Bill Gist and wife Kay of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Pam Finke and husband Gary of Brenham, Jim Gist of Fort Worth, Caron Ludwick and husband Damien of Wichita Falls, and Mary Margaret Armstrong of Lake Dallas; special caretaker, Diamond Jones; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Herman Teinert, Benny Stevens, Jim Gist, Clay Finke, Damien Ludwick, Todd Crump and Gary Finke. Honorary pallbearers will be Scotty Peavy, Mac Edward Vannetta, F.G. Lipsey and Maco Johnson.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster Palestine.
