— Funeral services for Oscar Bynum Starr, 86, of Elkhart will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lee Evans and Troy Starr officiating. Burial will follow at Perry Starr Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mr. Starr died Nov. 28, 2013 at the Hospice of East Texas Home Place in Tyler.
He was born Feb. 16, 1927 in Percilla, TX to Paul and Ioma Bynum Starr.
Mr. Starr served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947 during World War II. After the war he went to work for Sacony-Vacuum Oil Company which later became Mobil Oil. During this time he spent nine years in Venezuela and some 30 odd years in the Middle East. After 47 years with Mobil Oil he retired in 1982, where he spent his retirement years in the woods of East Texas. He raised hogs and cattle, and was always on the lookout for poachers in the area. Over the last several years he has been generous and a caregiver to several individuals in the community, some family, others were friends.
He is survived by sisters, Evelyn Young of Palestine, Iona Lou Gottlich of Gulfport, Miss.; brother, Ben Starr and Angela of Chandler and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be his nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1 at Herrington Land of Memory.
