Eula Mae Dudley

Palestine Herald-Press

— Services for Eula Mae Dudley, 85, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at South Union Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Warren G. Clark and Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Price Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

On June 4, 1928, a daughter was born to John Henry Taylor and Corine (Powell) Taylor in Palestine, Texas. She was affectionately called “Ma.”

Eula Mae was the mother to us all and touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity.

Eula Mae attended school at Mound Prairie Community, a one-room building. Her education was interrupted when she and her family had to be employed by picking cotton out in West Texas, and that meant being away from home long periods of time. She also was a 48-year member of The Hearts of Love Court No. 16 of the Grand Court Order of Calanthe.

Eula Mae united with Brown Spring Baptist Church at an early age, which she attended regularly until her health began to fail and this caused her to reside in the Cartmell Home for Aged where she was admired and loved by many for several years.

She and F.L. Dudley shared a longtime marriage and to this union nine children were born. Later she had three more children, which made her the mother of 12.

On midday, Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at Palestine Regional Medical Center, the Angels of Silence came for Eula Mae Dudley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, F.L. Dudley; her parents, John Henry Taylor and Corine Powell Taylor; her sons, Willie D. Dudley and Fred L. Dudley; daughters, Rozetta Cheri Dudley and Artist Faye Barrett, all of Palestine, Texas; sisters and brothers, Charles Taylor, Cora B. Taylor, Iva Walker Jones, Dorothy Lee Owens, Johnny B. Taylor and Iona Taylor.

Left to cherish her memories are the Rev. Shelley Dudley (Brenda) of Palestine, Alice Fay Rhodes (Rev. Claude) of Grand Prairie, Dorothy Dudley of Palestine, Jacqueline Barrett (David, deceased) of Lancaster, David Dudley of Houston, Barbara Dudley of Lancaster, Vivian Dudley of Palestine, Allen Dudley (Dorothy) of Palestine; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dudley (Jake, deceased) of Dallas; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from near and far.

Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013 in the funeral home chapel.
