Community flu shot clinics set

PALESTINE The Palestine Department of State Health Services in partnership with Crown Home Health Services will be offering seasonal flu shots. The first flu clinic was held in Neches on Wednesday.

The cost of the flu shots will be $10 or $20 per family. There will be no charge for those who have Medicare or Medicaid, but a Medicare/Medicaid card is needed.

On Tuesdays in October, flu shots will be given at the Palestine DSHS clinic, 100 W. Brazos St. Due to the overwhelming public response, the DSHS requests that those wanting flu shots come at 8 a.m. for the morning clinic and 1 p.m. for the afternoon.

Other dates and locations of flu clinics are listed below:

• Oct. 5 — Palestine DSHS Clinic, 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

• Oct. 9 — Montalba Baptist Church, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Oct. 15 — Slocum Church, 1 to 4 p.m.

• Oct. 16 — Elkhart First United Methodist Church, 1 to 4 p.m.

• Oct. 17 — Frankston Health Fair, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Oct. 19 — Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living, 421 Avenue A., 5 to 7 p.m.

• Oct. 22 — Cayuga Fire Department, 1 to 4 p.m.



Charity softball

game Saturday

The Palestine Police Department, Palestine Fire Department, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and CPS/Parole Office employees will hold their first annual Charity Softball Game Saturday at Calhoun Park.

This will be an all-day event. The first game begins at 8:30 a.m.

Donations will be accepted to benefit the Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties. Everyone is invited to attend to help support the Crisis Center and your favorite team. For more information contact Gary Rayford at 903-731-8478.



84 East VFD

barbecue Saturday

The 84 East Volunteer Fire Department will hold its fund-raiser and barbecue Saturday.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 84 East VFD Station, CR 385 (the second entrance to Circle R Lake). Signs will be posted on U.S. 84 East.

The menu includes barbecue brisket and sausage, potato salad, beans, beverage and dessert. Minimum contribution per plate is $6. Carryouts will be available.



Cub Scout Pack

collecting old flags

Cub Scout Pack 705 would like to offer a free service to the public. The pack would like to collect damaged, old flags that need to be retired. This way the flags can be retired in a ceremony appropriate to its service to our country.

“It would also be helpful as the boys need to learn proper handling of a flag retirement ceremony,” Jim Arceneaux of Pack 705 said.

The pack also is operating a uniform bank to assist scouts who would like to join the scouting program, but can’t afford to uniform correctly.

Girl Scout rally,

fund-raiser set

Girl Scout Troop 9301 will hold a Girl Scout Rally and Bake Sale from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Methodist Church. Girls in grades K-12 interested in joining Girl Scouts is welcome to stop by.

Dulcimer Club

meeting Saturday

The Jacksonville Jammers Dulcimer Club will meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Senior Citizens Center located at 302 S. Bolton St. in Jacksonville.

Free mountain dulcimer lessons will be given. Visitors are welcome.
