Life Behind the Pine Curtain: I am an American

PALESTINE — EDITOR’S NOTE: Life Behind the Pine Curtain is a series of anecdotes collected and edited by Herald-Press Publisher Gary Connor.

I am the Liberal-Progressives’ worst nightmare. I am an American.

I believe in God. I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some Liberal governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican.

I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer, it makes you a smart American and no one will ever take mine as long as I am breathing.

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, do it in English.

I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where they want to.

My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, Neil Armstrong, Billy Graham, Ronald Reagan and Louie Gohmert. I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor. I know wrestling is fake and I don't waste my time watching or arguing about it.

I believe it is asinine for the United States Congress to authorize almost 40 billion dollars each year in foreign aid when much of it goes to Arab nations who hate us and harbor Jihadists who try to kill Americans at every opportunity.

I believe if you don't like the way things are here, go back to where you came from and change your own country. If you were born here and don't like it you are free to move to any Socialist country that will have you.

I don't mind having my face shown on my drivers license. I think it's good and I'm proud that “God” is written on my money.

I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don't want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.

I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents, one man and one woman. I believe “illegal” is illegal no matter what the lawyers think.

I believe the American flag should be the only one allowed in America. We need God back in our country.

We live in the land of the free only because of the brave.

For the past 20 years, I have covered everything under the sun while working as community editor at the Palestine Herald-Press. I have covered festivals, banquets, graduations, fires, wrecks, elections, giant vegetables, you name it, I probably wrote about it.

Chefs are always recreating their menus and finding new inspiration for recipes. People ask me how where my new ideas come from and what I do to get inspired. The answer – mowing the lawn – and, by the way, I have a lot of lawn, vineyard and fields to mow.

  • MOVIE REVIEW: 22 Jump Street

I should have known better.  Just like “Legally Blonde” and “Dumb and Dumber,” a comedy based on a premise as opposed to one based on truly funny characters merged with a clever situation should never have a sequel.
