AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Here is the weekly fishing report as compiled for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for June 24. (Report also available on Web as www.txfishing.com.) CENTRAL
BASTROP: Water clear. Black bass are fair on watermelon spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and white tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are very good on shrimp and stinkbait. Yellow catfish are slow.
BELTON: Water clear; 82 degrees; 1.17’ low. Black bass are good trolling Rat-L-Traps. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows in 20 feet at night. Channel and blue catfish are good on nightcrawlers. Yellow catfish are slow.
BROWNWOOD: Water stained; 81 degrees; 6.27’ low. Black bass are excellent on Ribbits, Horny Toads, Bass Hogg buzzbaits and spinnerbaits over grass flats and among stickups, and on redbug and watermelon red Grande Bass 4” finesse worms with chartreuse tails around docks and near the rocks. Hybrid striper are good on shad in Hybrid Alley. White bass are excellent on Li’l Fishies and Persuader crankbaits off lighted docks at night. Crappie are good on minnows and Li’l Fishies in 8-14 feet. Channel catfish are good on trotlines baited with live bait in 8-12 feet. Yellow catfish are good on trotlines baited with live bait.
BUCHANAN: Water clear; 81 degrees; 19.13’ low. Black bass are good on Texas rigged grape Scoundrel worms, flukes, and watermelon JDC Skip-N-Pop topwaters along stumps on sloping island points and secondary points of pockets in 5-15 feet at daylight. Striped bass are fair on Red Fins, Zara Jr’s, and trolling Gizz 4 crankbaits from Lighthouse Point to the dam on the surface at daylight. White bass are slow to fair trolling Shad Raps and jigging Pirk Minnows and Tiny Traps over rock piles in 20-30 feet. Crappie are good on minnows and Curb’s crappie jigs over brush piles. Channel catfish are good on live bait and dipbait. Yellow and blue catfish are very good on juglines and Trotlines baited with goldfish and perch upriver above the falls.
CANYON LAKE: Water clear; 80 degrees; 13.10’ low. Black bass are fair on Pop R’s, crankbaits, and Flukes upriver along shorelines with lay downs and stumps in 4-8 feet at daylight. Striped bass are slow drifting live bait and trolling Gizz 4 and Shad Rap crankbaits on downriggers over 40’ humps. White bass are slow. Smallmouth bass are good on root beer JDC grubs and craws, chartreuse plastic Crickets, and watermelon red tubes on ball jigheads along ledges in 6-20 feet. Crappie are fair to good on Curb’s crappie jigs and live minnows upriver over submerged brush piles along channel breaks in 8 feet. Channel catfish are slow. Yellow and blue catfish are very good on juglines and trotlines upriver.
COLEMAN: Water clear; 81 degrees; 7.80’ low. Black bass are fair on watermelon red and watermelon green spinnerbaits and soft plastics. Hybrid striper are fair on live shad. Crappie are fair on minnows over brush piles in 20-30 feet. Channel and blue catfish are good on trotlines baited with live perch. Yellow catfish are slow.
COLORADO RIVER: (At Colorado Bend State Park) Water murky. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Catfish are excellent on trotlines baited with live perch and shad, and from the bank on rod and reel baited with nightcrawlers, perch, and shad.
FAYETTE: Water clear; 86 degrees. Black bass are fair on watermelon and watermelon gold Carolina rigged soft plastics in 10-18 feet. Channel and blue catfish are good on shrimp and cut shad in 8-12 feet.
GRANBURY: Water clear; 1.93’ low. Black bass are fair on Carolina rigged soft plastic worms and lizards, and on shad colored crankbaits. Striped bass are fair on minnows. White bass are fair on minnows and silver spoons. Crappie are fair on minnows. Catfish are good on nightcrawlers, chicken livers, and frozen shrimp.
GRANGER: Water murky; 80 degrees; 2.46’ low. Black bass are fair on jigs upriver. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs in 12-15 feet. Blue catfish are good on juglines baited with shad and cut bait. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live perch and goldfish.
LBJ: Water stained; 83 degrees; 0.40’ low. Black bass are fair on black/blue 1/4oz. Curb’s Erratic jigs, JDC Skip-N-Pop topwaters, and weightless watermelon red Whacky Sticks along seawalls and docks in 4-10 feet at daylight. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and white Curb’s crappie jigs over brush piles in 12 feet. Channel catfish are fair on minnows and dipbait. Yellow and blue catfish are good on trotlines baited with live perch.
NAVARRO MILLS: Water stained; 80 degrees; 0.44’ low. Black bass are good on watermelon and June bug soft plastic worms, white or chartreuse spinnerbaits, and shallow running crankbaits in 5-10 feet. White bass are good on slabs over humps. Crappie are fair to good on minnows and jigs off docks. Channel catfish are good on stinkbait in 4-5 feet. Blue catfish are slow. Yellow catfish are slow.
PROCTOR: Water stained; 80 degrees; 4.95’ low. Black bass are fair on crankbaits and soft plastic worms early. Striped bass are excellent on live shad. White bass are excellent on minnows. Crappie are good on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are good on trotlines and juglines baited with goldfish. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live bait.
SOMERVILLE: Water murky; 85 degrees; 1.81’ low. Black bass are slow. Hybrid striper are fair trolling slab spoons near the dam. White bass are fair trolling slab spoons near the dam. Crappie are fair on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are fair on punchbait, and on juglines baited with cut shad. Yellow catfish are slow.
STILLHOUSE: Water clear; 86 degrees; 1.56’ low. Black bass are fair on minnows. White bass are fair on liver along the banks at night. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and shrimp. Yellow catfish are slow.
TRAVIS: Water stained; 82 degrees; 35.02’ low. Black bass are good on watermelon worms and bone topwaters in 5-20 feet. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on fresh cut bait and nightcrawlers in 25-35 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.
WALTER E. LONG: Water fairly clear; 81 degrees. Black bass are fair on shad. Hybrid striper are fair on shad and crankbaits. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are fair on nightcrawlers, frozen shad, and frozen shrimp. Yellow catfish are slow.
WHITNEY: Water stained; 9.27’ low. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are fair on minnows and chartreuse tube jigs. Catfish are good on bait shrimp, stinkbait, and liver. NORTHEAST
ATHENS: Water lightly stained, 80-86 degrees; 0.23’ high. Black bass are good on topwaters early, later switching to Carolina rigs off points. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows over brush piles. Catfish are good on punch bait and worms around baited holes.
BOB SANDLIN: Water stained; 80-87 degrees; 0.18’ high. Black bass are good on Carolina rigs, drop shot rigs and topwaters. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs around structure. Catfish are fair on cut bait and nightcrawlers.
BRIDGEPORT: Water fairly clear; 79-85 degrees; 8.23’ low. Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits and Carolina rigs off main lake and secondary points. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows under docks and around bridge columns. White bass are good on Humdingers. Catfish are good on punch bait over holes baited with soured grain in shallow water.
CADDO: Water off color; 80-87 degrees; 0.92’ high. Black bass are good on soft plastic frogs and Texas rigged worms fished around pads. Crappie are fair on minnows along the river channel. White bass are good in the river channel. Catfish are excellent on trotlines set with earthworms. Bream are fair on crickets and red wigglers the in shallows.
CEDAR CREEK: Water lightly stained; 80-86 degrees; 0.05’ low. Black bass are fair early on topwaters, midday switching to flukes fished around grass. White bass are very good on Humdingers and TNT slabs. Hybrid striper are fair on Sassy Shad early. Crappie are fair on minnows over brush piles. Catfish are very good drifting cut shad.
COOPER: Water lightly stained; 80-85 degrees; 0.2’ low. Black bass are fair on drop shot rigs, Rat-L-Traps and Texas rigs. Crappie are fair to good on jigs and minnows. White bass are good on slabs and Rooster Tails. Hybrid striper are fair to good on Sassy Shad and live shad. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and prepared bait.
FAIRFIELD: Water fairly clear; 82-90 degrees. No report available.
FORK: Water lightly stained; 79-86 degrees; 0.54’ high. Black bass are fair to good on topwaters early and late, later switching to Senkos, drop shot rigged finesse worms and Carolina rigged watermelon/red Brush Hogs. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs under the bridges and over brush piles. Catfish are good on prepared baits.
GRAPEVINE: Water off color; 79-85 degrees; 1.91’ low. Black bass are fair on crankbaits off main and secondary points and Texas rigged soft plastics in the shallows. Crappie are fair to good on minnows and jigs over brush piles and under docks. White bass are good on topwaters, Humdingers and slabs. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and live shad.
JOE POOL: Water off color; 80-85 degrees; 0.16’ low. Black bass are fair on Rat-L-Traps, spinnerbaits and Texas rigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair on Humdingers and topwaters. Catfish are fair on cut and prepared baits.
LAKE O’ THE PINES: Water stained; 80-85 degrees; 1.64’ high. Black bass are fair on topwaters, drop shot rigs and spinnerbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs over brush piles. Catfish are good on nightcrawlers and cheesebait.
LAVON: Water stained; 79-85 degrees; 0.26’ low. Black bass are fair on drop shot rigs, topwaters and Texas rigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs around structure. Catfish are fair on cut shad and prepared baits.
LEWISVILLE: Water off color; 80-86 degrees; 0.14’ high. Black bass are fair on chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, Texas rigs and Bandit 100 crankbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs over brush piles. Catfish are good on prepared bait over baited holes.
MARTIN CREEK: 0.11’ high. No report available.
MONTICELLO: Water fairly clear; 82-90 degrees; 0.82’ high. No report available.
PALESTINE: Water lightly stained; 80-86 degrees; 0.67’ low. Black bass are fair to good on spinnerbaits, Texas rigged black/blue Power Worms and Rat-L-Traps. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs over brush piles. Hybrid striper are fair on live shad. White bass are good on topwaters and Humdingers. Catfish are fair to good on nightcrawlers and cheese bait.
RAY HUBBARD: Water stained; 81-86 degrees; 0.1’ high. Black bass are fair to good on Carolina rigged Brush Hogs, drop shot rigged finesse baits and spinnerbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White bass are good on Humdingers and chrome topwaters. Hybrid striper are fair on Sassy Shad. Catfish are fair to good on cut bait.
RAY ROBERTS: Water clear; 80-85 degrees; 0.38’ high. Black bass are good early on XCalibur Jimmys and Booyah spinnerbaits, later switching to Bomber crankbaits. Crappie are very good on minnows and jigs over brush piles in 24-30 feet. White bass are excellent around Cates Point and north of Culp Island with sporadic schooling all over the lake. Catfish are good on prepared bait.
RICHLAND CHAMBERS: Water off color; 80-85 degrees; 2.73’ low. Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits, Texas rigged lizards or worms and medium diving crankbaits. White bass and hybrid striper are fair to good on Humdingers, topwaters and live shad. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs over brush piles. Catfish are good cut shad and prepared baits.
TAWAKONI: Water stained; 80-86 degrees; 0.25’ high. Black bass are fair on 3” Sweet Beavers with a 1/8 oz. weight, Texas rigged lizards and chatterbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair to good on Humdingers and topwaters. Striped bass and hybrid striper are fair on live shad. Catfish are good on prepared and cut bait.
TEXOMA: Water off color; 79-85 degrees; 3.86’ high. Black bass are fair on Carolina rigs, medium diving crankbaits and Texas rigs. Striped bass are good on live shad in 25-50 feet. Catfish are good on nightcrawlers and prepared bait.
WEATHERFORD: Water lightly stained; 80-86 degrees; 5.67’ low. Black bass are fair to good on Rat-L-Traps and Texas rigged lizards around docks and on rocky points. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs in the crappie house and over brush piles. Channel catfish are good on worms and dough bait in the river channel on the north end. White bass are good on white Road Runners. Bream are good on worms.
WRIGHT PATMAN: Water stained; 79-85 degrees; 15.08’ high. Black bass are fair on Texas rigs, spinnerbaits and jerkbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair to good on Rooster Tails and topwaters. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and prepared baits. SOUTH
AMISTAD: Water clear; 85 degrees; 0.96’ low. Black bass to 7 pounds are fair to good on topwaters in 4-12 feet early, and on watermelon seed, watermelon red, and green pumpkin soft plastics in 18-20 feet. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Catfish are good on trotlines and juglines baited with live perch. Yellow catfish to 20 pounds are good on trotlines and juglines baited with live perch. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexico fishing license (if fishing the Mexico side) whether fishing or not.
BRAUNIG: Water stained; 80 degrees. Black bass are fair on crankbaits and dark soft plastic worms in reeds and near the jetty and dam. Striped bass are fair on liver and shad off points near the pier, and down rigging silver and gold spoons near the jetty and dam. Redfish are excellent on perch, tilapia shad, and silver spoons, and down rigging near the jetty and dam. Channel and blue catfish are excellent on liver, shrimp, cut bait, and cheesebait near the dam and the hot water discharge.
CALAVERAS: Water stained; 80 degrees. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are fair on spoons and striper jigs between the dam and the crappie wall in 15 feet, and on chicken livers and shad along the shoreline. Redfish are excellent down rigging silver and gold spoons and live bait along the crappie wall and the dam in 10-20 feet, on live perch and tilapia along the shoreline, and on live bait along the crappie wall. Crappie are slow. Channel catfish are excellent on liver, cheesebait, and shad near the railroad trestle. Blue catfish are excellent on liver and cut bait. Yellow catfish are slow.
CHOKE CANYON: Water clear; 83 degrees; 7.56’ low. Black bass are fair on crankbaits and large soft plastic worms. Crappie are fair on minnows. Drum are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on stinkbait in 5-12 feet. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live perch.
COLETO CREEK: Water stained; 82 degrees (90 degrees at discharge); 3.18’ low. Black bass are fair on soft plastics and topwaters in 4 8 feet. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are slow. Yellow catfish are slow.
FALCON: Water stained; 87 degrees. Black bass are fair on shallow running crankbaits on the north end of the lake. Striped bass are slow. Crappie are good on jigs Channel and blue catfish are good on frozen shrimp under birds. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexico fishing license (if fishing the Mexico side) whether fishing or not. SOUTHEAST
CONROE: Water murky; 0.69’ low. Black bass are good on Carolina rigged soft plastics, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. Striped bass are fair on minnows and silver striper jigs. Crappie are good on minnows and fair on blue tube jigs over brush in 20 feet. Catfish are good on stinkbait, chicken livers, and nightcrawlers.
GIBBONS CREEK: Water clear. Black bass are fair on chartreuse soft plastic worms and crankbaits. Crappie are good on minnows. Catfish are good on nightcrawlers, cut bait, and chicken livers.
HOUSTON COUNTY: Water clear; 90 degrees; 0.04’ low. Black bass to 5 pounds are good on June bug red flake 10” soft plastic worms on the south side of the lake near the dam in 10-16 feet. White bass are fair along the northeast shore. Crappie are good on live minnows over brush piles near the pump station and in coves near the dam in 20 feet. Bream are good on live worms off piers and grass beds. Channel and blue catfish to 4 pounds are good on trotlines baited with perch in 12-20 feet.
LIVINGSTON: Water fairly clear; 85 degrees; 0.65’ high. Black bass are good on spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Striped bass are good but small on pet spoons, hellbenders, trolling tubes, and slabs. White bass are good on pet spoons, hellbenders, trolling tubes, and Charlie slabs. Crappie are good on minnows. Blue catfish are good on shad. Yellow catfish are fair on live bait.
SAM RAYBURN: Water murky; 81 degrees; 2.19’ low. Black bass are fair on minnows and watermelon soft plastic worms. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are good on minnows and blue/black tube jigs over brush piles in 20-30 feet. Bream are fair on nightcrawlers. Catfish are very good on trotlines baited with live bait and cut bait.

TOLEDO BEND: Water murky; 82 degrees; 1.00’ low. Black bass are good on watermelon soft plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and Rat-L-Traps. Striped bass are fair on minnows and white striper jigs. GREENBELT: Water stained; 76 degrees; 28.76’ low. Black bass to five pounds are good on shad-colored crankbaits, white spinnerbaits, watermelon red soft plastic tubes, lizards and jigs, and live bait worked along grass lines and on topwater lures throughout the day. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows. White bass are good on live bait and white/black crankbaits. Smallmouth bass are good on live bait and white spinnerbaits. Walleye are good on live bait and chrome/blue jerkbaits. Catfish are good on live bait and cheese bait.
MACKENZIE: Water lightly stained; 75 degrees; 79.01’ low. Black bass are good on live bait. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs. White bass and striped bass are good on live bait and white crankbaits. Smallmouth bass are good on live bait and white spinnerbaits. Walleye are good on minnows and white spinnerbaits. MEREDITH: Water stained; 76 degrees; 70.22’ low. Black bass are good on live bait, black/blue jigs, watermelon/chartreuse soft plastic worms or tubes around rocky points and grass lines, and on topwater lures along rocks. Crappie are fair on minnows and yellow jigs in Rock Creek. White bass are good on silver Rat-L-Traps and jigging spoons suspended 18-20 feet in the Broadway area. Stripers are good on silver spoons and crankbaits by Bass Island. Catfish are good on live shad and cut liver in the north area along the river.

STAMFORD: Water lightly stained; 76 degrees; 4.15’ low. Black bass are good on white spinnerbaits and live bait along grass lines. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs. White and striped bass are good on live bait. Catfish are good on cut bait.
SWEETWATER: Water lightly stained; 77 degrees; 5.25’ low. Black bass are fair on live bait and shad-colored crankbaits. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs. White bass are good on live bait and inline spinners. Catfish are good on live bait.
WHITE RIVER: Water lightly stained; 77 degrees; 21.52’ low. Black bass are good on live bait, junebug soft plastic baits worked along tree lines and suspended in brush. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows. Walleye are good on live bait. Channel catfish are good on live bait. COASTAL
NORTH SABINE: Trout are fair to good under birds and pods of shad on soft plastics. Trout are good in the river on live shad.
SOUTH SABINE: Trout are fair to good under birds and pods of shad. Trout are good at the jetty on live bait and topwaters. Sheepshead are good on live shrimp tight to the rocks.
BOLIVAR: Trout are good on the south shoreline on Bass Assassins, Trout Killers and Sand Eels. Black drum, sand trout and redfish are good at Rollover Pass. Trout are good at Rollover Pass in the evening on the outgoing tide.
TRINITY BAY: Trout are good for drifters working pods of shad and mullet on Bass Assassins, Trout Killers and Sand Eels. Redfish are good on live bait around the reefs and in the marsh.
EAST GALVESTON BAY: Trout are good for drifters working deep shell on limetreuse and plum plastics. Trout are good on the south shoreline on Catch 5s, MirrOlures and Catch 2000s.
WEST GALVESTON BAY: Trout, sheepshead, redfish and black drum are good at the jetty on shrimp and crabs. Trout are good on MirrOlures and live shrimp at San Luis Pass. Offshore is good for red snapper and kingfish.
TEXAS CITY: Trout are fair to good on April Fool’s Reef on live shrimp and croakers. Trout are good in the ship channel on live bait and plastics.
FREEPORT: Trout are good in the surf and at the jetty on live shrimp and croakers. Sand trout and sheepshead are good on live shrimp on the reefs in Christmas Bay.
EAST MATAGORDA BAY: Trout are good for drifters on live shrimp over humps and scattered shell. Redfish are fair to good on the edge of the Intracoastal on crabs and mullet.
WEST MATAGORDA BAY: Trout are good on sand and grass humps on soft plastics and topwaters. Redfish are good at the jetty on shrimp and pogies. Redfish are good on topwaters and live shrimp in Oyster Lake.
PORT O’CONNOR: Trout and redfish are fair to good on topwaters and live bait over sand, grass and shell in San Antonio Bay. Trout and redfish are fair for drifters working the back lakes with live shrimp. Trout are good in the surf and at the jetty.
ROCKPORT: Trout are fair to good in the guts and channels on free-lined shrimp. Trout are fair to good over grass while drifting with live shrimp. Redfish are good on mullet on the Estes Flats and around Mud Island.
PORT ARANSAS: Trout, redfish and sheepshead are fair to good at the jetty on shrimp and croakers. Trout are good in the surf on topwaters and croakers. Offshore is good for red snapper and kingfish.
CORPUS CHRISTI: Trout are fair to good on the edge of the spoils on Gulps and live shrimp. Redfish are good in the potholes on shrimp. Trout are good in the surf on croakers and mullet.
BAFFIN BAY: Trout are good on topwaters and soft plastics around rocks and grass. Redfish have been found in knee-deep water and on the sand on shrimp and gold spoons.
PORT MANSFIELD: Trout are good on topwaters around sand and grass. Redfish are fair to good while drifting pot holes on small topwaters and live shrimp. Offshore is good for red snapper and kingfish.
SOUTH PADRE: Redfish and trout are good along the sand and grass in South Bay and Mexiquita Flats. Tarpon are showing around the passes and jetties
PORT ISABEL: Trout and redfish are fair to good on the flats on live shrimp and in Airport Cove. Trout are good on the deeper edges and flats in Laguna Vista on topwaters and live shrimp. Winds have been tough, but the bite has remained steady.
