Palestine, Westwood stay tied for third

Staff Reports

Palestine and Westwood softball teams will have their playoff hopes come down to the final game after both teams won Tuesday night.

Palestine won at Crockett 12-0 in five innings and Westwood, in its final home game, held off Athens 3-1.

The two teams are tied for third place in the district with one more game left — Palestine travels to Brownsboro and Westwood travels to Crockett Friday night.

In Crockett, Palestine took care of business quickly scoring four runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning.

“We talked this week about not looking past this game and taking care of business so we could get to Friday,” Palestine coach J.J. Johnson said. “I am real proud of the girls and they way they have stepped up.”

Mickey Roman got the win, striking out 10 and allowing one hit.

Lindsey Whittington had a single, double and triple and two RBI. Tiesha Campbell had a triple and Tiera Stephens had a pinch-hit two run double.

At Lady Panther field, Westwood scored three runs in the first inning and used strong defense to keep Athens at bay.

Sumer Davis earned the win as she allowed one run.

Emily Mackie, Jazmine Hicks and Zoey Perry all were 1-for-3. Hicks hit got past the left fielder and allowed her to go around the bases and score.

Cayuga softball tops Trinidad

BETHEL — Ashley January did not allow a base runner for three innings in Cayuga’s 22-0 rout over Trinidad Tuesday night.

At the plate, Lou Russel, Brooke Dublin, Kaitlyn Cornelius and Laura McMillian all had hits.
