Incumbent Kim Dickson advances to general election

PALESTINE — Like their counterparts in the commissioner’s race, incumbent Kim Dickson and challenger Ronnie Holcomb had to wait until the very end to see their race for the Republican nomination for precinct 3 constable decided.

And when all the dust had settled, Dickson had nudged Holcomb by a mere 61 votes to advance to the November general election where she will face unopposed Democrat Marvin Rogers.

On Tuesday, Dickson, who has served in the post for five years, finished with 755 votes (52.1 percent), compared to 694 votes (47.9 percent) for Holcomb, an Anderson County sheriff’s deputy.

“I’m pleased with the outcome of the race,” Dickson said. “It was exciting from box-to-box to say the least. I’m looking forward to the election in the fall. I want to say thank you to the people who showed up to vote.”

Dickson did not seem surprised by the narrow margin of her victory.

“I thought it was going to be close,” Dickson stated. “I thought it would be.”

Holcomb, who is a warrant officer for the sheriff’s office, admitted disappointment, but added, “We have no regrets about the way I ran it.

“I’m disappointed,” Holcomb continued. “We ran a good, hard race. We ran it with the highest ethical values. We just came out a few short. We praise the Lord anyway. We praise Him if we win, we praise Him if we lose.”
