Lightfoot re-elected as Pct. 2 constable

PALESTINE —
Anderson County precinct 2 constable Doug Lightfoot won re-election to office Tuesday in the closest of the three county constable races.
Lightfoot, the incumbent Republican, drew 1,918 votes to defeat Democratic challenger Horace A. Poullard, who received 1,389 votes.
Lightfoot has served as precinct 2 constable for the past four years. Poullard, meanwhile, has been a deputy constable in Henderson County; reserve officer in Houston County; sergeant with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office; patrolman with the Malakoff Police Department; and lieutenant with the Caney City Police Department.
“I’ve done a little bit better than I expected,” Lightfoot said. “I’m pleased that the citizens have given me four more years to be constable.”
Until the results were final, Lightfoot said he wasn’t sure how the election would turn.
“It was fairly hard to read until today,” he said. “I ran a cautious, concerned race. Tennessee Colony, Tucker and Harmony were all big boxes for me.”
He plans to make the most of the opportunity to serve another four years, he said.
“I’ll strive to do a good job for the citizens who put me in there,” Lightfoot said.
Poullard could not be reached for comment Friday night.
