OISD looking for new chief

By MARY RAINWATER
The Palestine Herald

OAKWOOD Oakwood Independent School District trustees soon will begin interviewing candidates for a new superintendent as current chief Dr. Douglas Moore will be leaving the district to take a position at a charter school.

Moore, who has been with the district for just over two years, is set to leave July 31. In the mean time, he is assisting the board in the search for his replacement.

“The board will be holding interviews with candidates May 9 and 10,” Moore said Wednesday. “If all goes well, they will meet on May 12 to name the lone finalist.”

Once a lone finalist is named, the board must wait a state-required 21 days before finalizing the hire and issuing a contract — which falls about June 2, if all goes as expected.

“Oakwood is a good district with a lot of good people,” Moore said. “My leaving here has nothing at all to do with anything negative, by any means, in any part of Oakwood ISD.

“I am sure the board will find someone great to continue their work with the district.”

Moore will complete his 40th year in education this year, with the last 26 years served as a superintendent of schools. Before arriving in Oakwood, he was superintendent at Trinity ISD.

Moore got his start in education as a coach, teacher and principal at Hull-Daisetta ISD. After 12 years there, he served as a superintendent at Brady, Edinberg, Sealy and Liberty ISDs before landing at Trinity.
