Slocum ISD School Happenings for 4-8-07

Prom King and Queen — Aaron Chastain was chosen Prom King and Kasey Kimball was chosen Queen at the Slocum Prom March 24 at the Country Club in Crockett. Chastain will be going to Texas A&M in Galveston when he graduates and plans a career in Marine Biology. Kimball will be going to Trinity Valley Community College in Palestine upon graduation and completing her degree in business at U.T. Tyler.

State UIL Debate Tournament — On March 12, the Slocum Cross Examination Debate team went to Austin to compete in the State UIL Debate Tournament. Meagan Carroll and Alyssa Long have been competing in debate since their freshman year making it to state the past three years. Their teachers and parents can be proud of what these students have achieved. They are excellent students and positive role models for the younger students coming up.

“These students have put in the hours and road trips to reach their dreams. They should be very proud of themselves. They have been role models to the other students and they will be missed after graduation,” Mr. Parker said.

Book Fair — Slocum Library will host a “Buy One Get One Free” Scholastic Book Fair Monday through Friday. The book fair will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. A parent preview night will be from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. Monday. All parents who attend will have the opportunity to purchase books and place their child's name and their child's teacher's name in a drawing for $25 free materials from the book fair. For more information, contact the library staff at Slocum School.

Regional UIL — High School Regional UIL will be help in Nacogdoches on Saturday. We have several students and teams going to regional. Good Luck!

TAKS — The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills Tests will be giving the week of April 17-20.

Please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest and has a healthy breakfast to prepare him or her for doing her best on these tests.

Prom King and Queen — The senior class is sponsoring a brick campaign to raise funds for the Project Graduation and a senior class gift to the school. The bricks will be laid on campus to honor the alumni of Slocum School.

Each personalized bring measures 4X8 and allows for 16 characters per line including spaces for punctuation. The cost of each brick is $30 and paid orders are due by April 25. Please contact Amy Jones, Jamie Long or Carey Trahan for more information.

End of Six Weeks — The end of the fifth six weeks is Friday.
