• Grandparent's Day — Thank you to all of the Grandparent’s who celebrated Grandparent’s Day with their grandchildren. SISD had a huge turnout for breakfast and the student’s had a great day because of it! Looking forward to seeing you again next year!
• Cub Scout Registration — Kevin Jones and Sean Eubanks, the leaders of Cub Scout Pack 702, met with boys in grades first through fifth grades.
They explained to the boys that joining Cub Scouts was a great way to have fun, spend time with family, and make new friends.
Among the list of things planned for the next year was a camp out with mothers-which received uproar of excited shouts from the group!
Pack 702 holds meeting every second and fourth Thursday at the Slocum First Baptist Church next to the school.
• Mustang Broadcasting Company Starts New Year — Ms. Mannix’s fourth and fifth period computer classes will be broadcasting the weekly news this year. After viewing several news clips and reading numerous articles on the internet, students will report on several topics in the local, national and world news. Then it will be made available for other students and classes in the school on the school’s webpage.
This is the second year that Ms. Mannix has decided to keep up the Mustang Broadcasting Company and hopes that it will be fun, exciting and informative for all the participating students and their viewers.
• Freedom Week — Celebrate Freedom Week is Sept.17-21.
• Open House — SISD Open House will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday. Students and parents meet in the gym for an introduction of the teachers and then may visit the classrooms of the students,
• LaPoynor Tournament — Junior High basketball participated in the at the La Poynor Tournament Thursday and Saturday.
• FCCLA/FFA State Fair Trip — On Sept. 28, members of the FCCLA and FFA will be leaving for Dallas for the annual FCCLA/FFA day at the Texas State Fair.
Dues for both organizations are $15, but if you are planning on attending the state fair trip the cost will be $25. The bus will be leaving shortly after school lets out that Friday.
• Fifth Grade — Fifth grade is learning in science about living and non-living things and has also done an experiment about them. In reading read “The Wise Old Woman” and in social studies are doing holiday posters.
